Strohm Named to ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Team

Webster University senior second baseman Danny Strohm was named to the 2019 NCAA Division III Gold Glove Team by the American Baseball Coaches Association and Rawlings Sporting Goods on Wednesday night as the ABCA announced this year's Gold Glove Teams at TD Ameritrade Park during the NCAA Division I College World Series.

Strohm, who was one of nine players named to the Division III Gold Glove Team, becomes the second Gorlok since the award's inception in 2007 to earn a Gold Glove Award and first since Matt Wollnick was honored in 2014.

"What a tremendous and well deserving honor for Danny and Webster Baseball," Webster head coach Bill Kurich said. "Danny was one of the top defensive players in Division III, not only this season but since coming to Webster last season and it was nice to see him honored with a Gold Glove Award this year."

Strohm earns this year's Gold Glove at second base after recording just two errors in 235 fielding chances. Along with committing just two errors, Strohm had 119 putouts and 114 assists and was a part of 32 double plays for Webster. Strohm finished the season with a .991 fielding percentage. On the year, Strohm had four or more putouts in a game nine times, including a career-high 10 putouts against Transylvania on Feb. 25.

In addition to being one of the six seniors named to the Division III Gold Glove Team, Strohm represented the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference as the lone selection from the league. In fact, Webster is the only school in the league to ever have a Gold Glove selection.

Along with his defensive prowess, Strohm finished the 2019 season with a .257 batting average as he recorded 43 hits, scored 24 runs, hit 12 doubles, two home runs, had 32 RBI and had 10 multi-hit games and six multiple-RBI games. In addition, he was 2-for-3 on stolen bases

The ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Awards are selected by ABCA coaches committees at each level: NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA Divisions I, II and III, Pacific Association Division, and High School. The first ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams were recognized in 2007, making this the 13th year the Rawlings Gold Glove Awards have been presented in the collegiate and high school ranks.
