Blackburn Basketball Celebrating Basketball Centennial

CARLINVILLE, Ill. - The Blackburn College Basketball Programs are celebrating 100 years of basketball at the college. The first season of basketball was played during 1911-1912. The college will be celebrating different eras during Saturday home games in January and February. Blackburn honored players from the 1930's, 40's and 50's on January 14 with the college's all-time leading scorer Pete Hughes who was among the honorees in attendance. On January 21, former coach Dale Snider, who was head coach from 1969-1975 and former players; Kris Glintborg, Susan Glintborg, Jim Eisenbarth, Margie Eisenbarth, Frank Simpson and Mike Kaczmarz were all recognized at halftime of the men's basketball contest.

Looking ahead, on Saturday, January 28 the college will honor players from the 1980's and 90's. On February 4, players from the past decade will be honored including two conference championship teams from the 2002-03 and 2004-05 seasons. The celebrations wrap-up on February 18 with alumni games taking place. Women's basketball alums will play an hour long contest followed by a men's alumni game lasting about an hour.

There are receptions held in the gymnasium after the men's contests on those dates. A book written by Blackburn alum Tom Emery commemorates the history of Blackburn Basketball is available for purchase through the alumni office.
