Eureka to Dedicate "Championship Circle" on Dec. 3

EUREKA, Ill. – Eureka College is pleased to announce the planned dedication of "Championship Circle" at the Reagan Center on Dec. 3 during halftime of the Red Devils' men's basketball game scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. The newly-painted circle at center court will be dedicated in honor of Eureka Hall of Famer and former men's basketball head coach Dave Darnall and Eureka's 1994 NAIA Division II national championship team.

The dedication will take place during halftime of the men's game against Principia, scheduled to begin at 3 pm. Former players from any of Darnall's 20 squads from 1974 through 1994 are invited to take part in the dedication. A postgame celebration will take place in the Rigazio Lobby inside the Reagan Center at approximately 5 p.m. or immediately following the men's game.

The cost for the event, which includes admission to the dedication ceremony, both games of the doubleheader, the reception and a commemorative t-shirt, is $15 in advance and $25 at the door. Individuals interested in attending are encouraged to RSVP by Nov. 22 by calling (877) 892-7823 or emailing alumni@eureka.edu.

Darnall coached the Eureka men's basketball team for 20 seasons from 1974 until 1994 and led the Red Devils to the 1994 NAIA Division II national championship in his final season as head coach. His teams participated in the NAIA national tournament 14 times overall, and his 383 victories are the most by any head coach in the history of Eureka College athletics.

The new Reagan Center floor, which was formerly used as a practice surface by the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves, features a parquet design and was installed in square pieces and painted during a nine-day process last June. The "Championship Circle" design was painted in October.
