Kouchi Sizzles for 1st Place Finish

Nina Kouchi '22 has made a name for herself as a Grinnell College women's golfer, and this weekend added to her résumé.

Kouchi shot a sizzling round of 2-under-par 70 Sunday, the second-lowest round in Pioneer history, to propel herself to victory in the 70-golfer field at the Augustana Highland Classic.

Kouchi's overall total of 143 at Highland Springs Golf Club is the fourth-best two-day score in school history and was two shots better than the runner-up.

As a team, Grinnell shot a 319 Sunday for a two-day total of 629. That two-day score ranks fifth in Pioneer history and was good for a runner-up finish at the tournament, placing only behind host Augustana College.

Three other Pioneers shot 83s on Sunday, those players being Lexi Mueldener '23, Danielle Oberlander '21 and Aubrie Torhorst '21. Mueldener tied for 16th place with a 161, Oberlander had a 162 to tie for 18th and Torhorst tied for 21st with 163. Zoe Robinson '23 rounded out Grinnell's team, shooting 86 Sunday for an overall score of 171.

The Pioneers compete at the Wartburg College Invitational next weekend.
