Records Fall for Monmouth

Two team records and one individual record nearly fell, propelling the Monmouth College women's golf team to first place honors at the Illinois College Fall Invitational in Jacksonville.
 
Playing on the par 72 course at The Links, the Fighting Scots led from wire-to-wire, opening with a 321, two strokes off the program record, and finishing Monday's final round at 335 for a 36-hole 656 total, narrowly missing the program record for 36-holes by three strokes.
 
Morgan Bemis paced the Scots in Round 1 with a personal-best 77, a single stroke off the school record. Haley Hoekstra – who holds the 18-hole record – carded an 81, matched by Dani Freeman. Mamie Ambrosch finished the opening round with an 82 to give Monmouth their lowest 18-hole score of the season.
 
Freeman finished Monday's final round with an 82 to post a personal-best 36-hole total of 163, finishing sixth, a stroke and a place ahead of Bemis and Hoekstra. Bemis slipped to an 87 over the final 18 to check into the clubhouse with a personal-best for 36-holes at 164, the same score as Hoekstra who toured the course with a final round 83. Ambrosch matched Hoekstra's final round 83 to post a two-day total of 165.
 
Jessi Haines rounded out the team scores with a 100-94-194 while Kaniesha Whatley posted individual rounds of 104-97-201.
 
The Scots travel to Fort Madison, Iowa, Tuesday for the Iowa Wesleyan Tiger Classic before returning to The Links for the SLIAC Tournament Oct. 7-8.
