Scott Named Principia Track and Field Coach

The Principia College Athletic Department is delighted to welcome Dr. Andrew Scott as the new Head Coach of the Men's and Women's Track & Field program! He will also serve as the Assistant Coach for the Cross Country program.

Originally from Jamaica, Dr. Scott comes to Principia College with six years of experience coaching track and field in the greater St. Louis area. He is the founder and head coach of Tallawah Roos Track & Field, a club based in St. Louis that has developed young athletes into successful collegiate athletes at all NCAA divisions. The meaning of Tallawah in Jamaica is "small but strong", which is a perfect fit for the Principia Athletics culture.

In addition to his work with Tallawah, Dr. Scott coached at the Whitfield School and was most recently the Head Coach of both Track & Field and Cross Country at the St. Louis Priory School. He earned his bachelor's degree and competed in track & field at Missouri Baptist University before receiving his doctorate at Logan University.

With Dr. Scott taking over the helm of the Principia Track & Field program, Nick Barron will return to an assistant role specializing in the distance events, while remaining as Head Coach of Cross Country. Former Principia Track & Field head coaches, Ann Pierson and Robert Baker, will also be assisting the program by adding their expertise to the coaching staff.

Barron shared his excitement for the hire, saying, "Coach Scott understands the values of Principia College Track & Field, and he has been coaching these values with his teams and athletes for many years. His passion for the sport and for helping student-athletes discover success in all aspects of life make Coach Scott a perfect fit for our Track & Field program."

Director of Athletics, Ann Pierson, adds, "I'm so pleased that we have the opportunity to add a high caliber educator to our staff. Coach Scott is uniquely poised to carry on and carry forward the rich tradition of excellence the track and field and cross-country programs have demonstrated over the years. Coach Barron and Coach Scott will team up to deliver a wonderful program!"

Coach Scott's athletes speak highly of their experience with him as well. One of Scott's former club athletes, who now competes at the NCAA DII level, says, "Coach Scott is the best coach I've ever had. He understands that you must train hard to win, but also understands that you need to have fun. He doesn't just see his athletes as athletes. He's invested in you as a person, your growth, and your future too."

Coach Scott lives in St. Louis with his wife, Lauren, and their two children, Lincoln and Selena.
