Four Repeat as Athletes of the Week

St. Louis, Mo. - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has announced the Athletes of the Week for the week of September 17-23.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Principia College's Wylie Mangelsdorf, a junior from Palmer, Alaska, has been named the Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the week of September 17-23. This marks the second time this season that he has earned the honor.

Mangelsdorf posted a time of 25:44 on the 8K course at the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational hosted by Augustana College (Ill.). He placed 12th out of 461 runners at the event that featured many of the top teams in the region. Principia finished 11th out of 34 total teams competing.

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Principia College's Casey Powell, a senior from Colorado Springs, Colo. (Cheyenne Mountain), has been named the Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the week of September 17-23. This marks the second time this season that she has earned the honor.

Powell finished 29th out of 397 runners competing at the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational hosted by Augustana College (Ill.). She posted a time of 23:28 on the 6K course and was the top SLIAC finisher by only one second. Principia finished 14th out of 32 teams competing.

MEN'S SOCCER - OFFENSIVE
Blackburn College's Josh Kutzke, a sophomore from Freeport, Ill., has been named the Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the week of September 17-23.

Kutzke, a forward, posted five goals and two assists for a total of 12 points in two games played last week. He had four goals, including the game-winner in a 6-1 victory versus St. Louis Christian College and had a .667 shot-on-goal percentage. Kutzke then added one goal and two assists as Blackburn defeated Lindenwood University-Belleville, 3-2.

MEN'S SOCCER - DEFENSIVE
Webster University's Brian Woodward, a sophomore from Eureka, Mo., has been named the Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week of September 17-23. This marks the second time this season that he has earned the honor.

Woodward, a goalkeeper, had a stellar game as the Gorloks battled nationally ranked No. 8 Wheaton College (Ill.) to a 1-1 draw through two overtimes. Wheaton had 33 shots and 21 corner kicks in the contest, and Woodward came away with 15 total saves. He also had three saves in a 2-1 loss to William Woods University last week.

WOMEN'S SOCCER - OFFENSIVE
Webster University's Ally Nikolaus, a junior from St. Louis, Mo. (St. Joseph's Academy), has been named the Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the week of September 17-23.

Nikolaus, a midfielder, helped lead the Gorloks to two victories on the road last week. She scored the game-winning goal in a 2-0 win over Millikin University and provided her squad with 90 minutes both offensively and defensively. Nikolaus added another game-winner in Webster's 5-1 victory against North Central College.

WOMEN'S SOCCER - DEFENSIVE
Principia College's Murilla King, a junior from Novato, Calif., has been named the Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week of September 17-23.

King, a goalkeeper, posted a shutout against Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology last week. She had four saves as Principia won 2-0.

"Murilla was aggressive off the line and showed composure with the ball at her feet when providing support for her defenders on a pass back," commented Princpia head coach Jess Semnacher.

VOLLEYBALL - OFFENSIVE
Webster University's Jenny Howard, a sophomore from Florissant, Mo. (Duchesne), has been named the Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for the week of September 17-23. This marks the second consecutive week that she has earned the honor.

Howard, an outside hitter, recorded 33 kills, 27 digs and a .455 attack percentage as the Gorloks went 3-0 in SLIAC play last week. She had nine kills, three service aces and two digs in only two sets played in a 3-0 win over Blackburn College. She then added nine kills and 13 digs in a 3-0 win versus Fontbonne University. Howard's best outing of the week was a 15 kills, 12 digs and three blocks performance as Webster swept Westminster in three sets.

VOLLEYBALL - DEFENSIVE
Webster University's Liz Abraham, a junior from Hermann, Mo., has been named the Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the week of September 17-23.

Abraham, a defensive specialist, led the Gorloks defensively as they swept nine straight sets and went 3-0 in SLIAC play last week. She averaged 19 digs per match and 7.12 per set in eight sets played, while also posting nine service aces. Abraham had 14 digs and three service aces in a 3-0 win versus Blackburn College. She had 25 digs and two service aces against Fontbonne University and added 18 digs and four service aces in a 3-0 victory against Westminster College (Mo.).
