Nielsen Heating Up As Fall Cools Off

Spalding University golfer Garrett Nielsen continues to heat up as the fall temperatures cool down. Nielsen improved on his individual finish for the third straight event, taking first place at the IU Kokomo Invite this past weekend. Nielsen, a junior from Chicago, Ill., took first in a field of 33 golfers at Wildcat Creek Golf Course in Kokomo, Indiana.

Representing Spalding as the lone Golden Eagle in the tournament Nielsen shot a two-round score of 149, besting the next golfer by one stroke. Nielsen opened up the tournament with a first round 73 and entered the final round one stroke out of the lead. His consistent play in the tournament allowed him to move into the front of the pack, shooting a 76 in round two and finishing +5 for the event.

This marks Nielsen's first win of the fall and his third top-five finish. He started the fall off with a fifth-place finish at the Dan Quayle Collegiate Classic and then took fourth at the Hopkins Golf Collegiate. Last weekend's tournament was Spalding's final event before beginning their spring schedule in 2018.
