Webster's Morgan Selected to All-Star Game

Webster's Morgan Selected to All-Star Game

Webster University senior guard Jaysea Morgan (Fisk, Mo./Twin Rivers) has been selected to participate in the second annual Beyond Sports Women's Collegiate Division III All-Star Game presented by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).

The second annual Beyond Sports Women's Collegiate All-Star Game will be played at the Capital Center Performance Arena on the campus of Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, on March 21, immediately preceding the NCAA Division III women's basketball national championship game. Tip-off for the All-Star game is set for 5 p.m. ET.

Morgan and the 18 other all-stars were selected by a committee of head women's basketball coaches of NCAA Division III programs, who are also members of the WBCA. All of the players were nominated by WBCA member coaches. The final two participants for the All-Star Game will be selected by fans from a list of eight potential nominees.

"What a tremendous honor to have Jaysea selected by the WBCA to participate in the Division III All-Star Game at this year's Division III championship game," Webster head coach Jordan Olufson said. "This honor is one that is truly deserved for not only the season she had this year but also for the four-year career she had as a Gorlok. I am beyond proud of her and for the Webster University Women's Basketball program."

The All-Star Game selection for Morgan just adds to the list of accolades she has also already earned this season as the 5-foot-7 guard was named the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year and also earned First-Team All-SLIAC honors, along with being named to the SLIAC All-Tournament Team and earning two SLIAC Player of the Week honors during the 2019-20 regular season.

"So, being from a small town and everyone there and surrounding areas, everyone knew me by either as the girl who plays ball at Twin Rivers or John David's daughter (local farmer). It was easy to get awards and recognition in a small town/small school, but I never would have expected that I would be recognized so much at a D-III college in a big city, with hundreds of other D-III athletes," Morgan said about earning a spot in the Division III All-Star Game. "It's amazing. It is such a good feeling knowing that my hard work and dedication to what I love is recognized at a high level and it's so great. I'm truly honored and can't wait to represent Webster and my small town, Fisk, Missouri."

During the recently completed season, Morgan averaged 13.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.8 steals per game and shot 52 percent from the field, 37 percent from the 3-point line and 85 percent at the free-throw line. She tallied double-digits in scoring in a team-best 21 games, including ending the 2019-20 season tallying double digits in seven of her last eight games and had four games of scoring 20 or more points, including a career-high 25 points earlier this year at home against Greenville. In addition, she also had four or more steals in a game seven times this season and 30 times in her career.

In the 2019-20 campaign, Morgan became the seventh member of Webster's 1,000 Point Club as she closed out her career with 1,063 points, which is seventh in school history and she holds the school record for career steals with 277 and that is ninth among active Division III players. In addition, Morgan led the league in steals with 78 and is 36th nationally in steals and is 33rd nationally in free throw percentage.

Morgan closed her career sitting in the Top 10 in numerous career statistical categories besides scoring and assists as she holds the school's all-time mark for career free throw percentage (82.9 percent), tied for second in career games played (107), sixth in career free throws made (252), eighth in career field goals made (373), ninth in career free throws attempted (304), ninth in career minutes played (2,421) and 10th in field goals attempted (831).

Joining Morgan on this year's All-Star Team are Jordan Barth (Misericordia University), Anna-Sophia Capizzi (Haverford), Erica DeCandido (Tufts University), Hannah Fox (Amherst University), Sheridan Hopkins (University of St. Thomas), Sydney Kopp (DePauw University), Macenzie Kraemer (Loras College), Taylor Lake (University of Chicago), Olivia LeBaron (Buffalo State University), Alexis Nall (Hanover College), Caitlin Navratil (Nebraska Wesleyan University), Victoria Pena (University of Texas at Dallas), Rebecca Prociak (King's College), Yuleska Ramirez-Tejeda (Emmanuel College), Devan Rimmer (Widener University), Makena Stone (Whitman College) and Madison Van Pelt (SUNY New Paltz).
