Principia's Powell Competes at NCAA DIII Championships

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Principia College's Casey Powell was the lone women's runner from the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) to compete at the 2012 NCAA DIII Women's Cross Country Championships.

Powell started off the race patiently and ended up in the front third of the women's field through the first mile and stayed there. Powell maintained a steady pace throughout the 6000-meter race, winding through a weaving course with the sun directly above the women's field as they passed each kilometer.

Powell posted a time of 22:45.00 on the 6K course at host Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. She finished 97th out of 277 total runners.

Johns Hopkins University claimed the women's team title, marking the University's first national championship in a women's sport and their first overall as an athletic department since 1979. The Blue Jays soared in scoring 153 points, 63 ahead of nearest challenger Wartburg.
