Principia's Powell Continues to Dominate the Running Path; Claims 3rd Runner of the Week Honor

St. Louis, Mo. - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has announced the Athletes of the Week for the week of September 19-25.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Principia College's Wylie Mangelsdorf, a sophomore from Palmer, Alaska, has been named the Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the week of September 19-25.

Mangelsdorf ran a lifetime personal best of 25:20 and was the second place finisher for the Panthers at the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational host by Augustana College (Ill.). He placed 14th out of 403 runners competing, while Principia placed seventh overall out of 33 teams competing and was the top SLIAC team at the race.

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Principia College's Casey Powell, a junior from Colorado Springs, Colo., has been named the Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the week of September 19-25. This marks the third time this season that she has earned the honor.

Powell ran a time of 23:16 on the 6K course to place 26th out of 323 runners competing at the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational hosted by Augustana College (Ill.). She was the top runner from the SLIAC and helped her squad to a 16th place finish out of 27 teams competing.

"Casey [Powell] moved up steadily through the field, running a tactically (nearly) perfect race and had a very strong showing in what is likely a 'pre-regional' warm-up," stated Principia head coach Chuck Wilcoxen.

MEN'S SOCCER - OFFENSIVE
Fontbonne University's Josh Schulz, a sophomore from Florissant, Mo. (McLuer North), has been named the Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the week of September 19-25.

Schulz, a 5-8 forward, scored three goals and tallied two assists for a total of eight points in two games played last week. He had the Griffins' lone goal in a 1-1 double overtime draw versus Culver-Stockton College. Schulz then recorded two goals and two assists to lead Fontbonne to a 5-0 SLIAC victory against Eureka College.

WOMEN'S SOCCER - OFFENSIVE
Fontbonne University's Kendra Schilli, a senior from Perryville, Mo., has been named the Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the week of September 19-25.

Schilli, a forward, had three goals and three assists for a total of nine points in two games played last week. She had two goals and two assists in a 5-1 non-conference victory versus Westminster College (Mo.). In a 7-0 shutout against Eureka College in which Schilli only played the first half, she came away with one goal and one assist.

WOMEN'S SOCCER - DEFENSIVE
Webster University's Izzy Sherfy, a senior from St. Louis, Mo. (Pattonville), has been named the Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week of September 19-25.

Sherfy, a defender, played in all 290 minutes of the Gorloks three games last week. Sherfy, who is and anchor for the Webster defense, helped her squad to two shutouts last week. They battled Millikin University to a 0-0 double overtime draw, and they defeated North Central College 1-0. The lone goal given up by the Gorloks was on a free kick in a 1-0 loss to Dominican University (Ill.). Prior to that goal Webster had gone 238 minutes without giving up a goal.

VOLLEYBALL - OFFENSIVE
Greenville College's Nicole Schaeffer, a freshman from Carlyle, Ill., has been named the Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for the week of September 19-25.

Schaeffer, a 5-9 outside hitter, averaged 4.2 kills per set and recorded a total of 36 digs and eight blocks in three matches played last week. She tallied two double-doubles on the week with 18 kills and 14 digs in a 3-1 victory (25-19, 23-25, 25-22, 25-22) in Greenville's first match against Principia College. In the Panthers' second match of the week against Principia, Schaeffer had 12 kills and 16 digs as Greenville won 3-1 (25-17, 25-13, 22-25, 25-19). Schaeffer finished the week with 12 kills and six digs in only two sets played in a 3-0 win (25-16, 25-23, 25-13) over Fontbonne University.

VOLLEYBALL - DEFENSIVE
Eureka College's Courtney Kincaid, a junior from Green Valley, Ill. (Midwest Central), has been named the Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the week of September 19-25.

Kincaid, a 5-6 libero, totaled 93 digs and three service aces in four matches last week for the Red Devils. Kincaid recorded a career-high 24 digs and added two service aces in a 3-0 win (25-17, 25-15, 25-15) against Blackburn College. She then had nine digs and 12 digs respectively as Eureka lost in three sets to both Spalding University (17-25, 11-25, 21-25) and Principia College (23-25, 8-25, 7-25). Kincaid finished the week by topping her career-high set earlier in the week with 48 digs in a 3-1 victory (25-14, 21-25, 25-20, 25-19) versus Fontbonne University. Her 48 digs is also a single-match record for the Red Devils.
