Webster Sweeps Volleyball Players of the Week for October 17-23

St. Louis, Mo. - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has announced the Athletes of the Week for the week of October 17-23.

MEN'S SOCCER - OFFENSIVE
Eureka College's Cody Halstead, a senior from Peoria, Ill. (Richwoods), has been named the Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the week of October 17-23. This marks the second time this season that he has earned the honor.

Halstead, a 5-6 forward, scored two goals and added an assist for the Red Devils in a split of two SLIAC matches last week. He tallied Eureka's lone goal on a penalty kick in a 4-1 loss to Blackburn College. Halstead then recorded an assist and scored the game-winning goal in a 4-1 victory versus Spalding University.

MEN'S SOCCER - DEFENSIVE
Greenville College's Steve Beam, a junior from St. Louis, Mo. (DeSmet), has been named the Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week of October 17-23.

Beam, a 6-0 defender, anchored a Panther defense that posted two shutouts last week in conference play over Webster University, 1-0, and Fontbonne University, 1-0. The two shutouts marked the third and fourth consecutive shutouts for Greenville, who now stands at 6-1 in SLIAC play.

WOMEN'S SOCCER - OFFENSIVE
Webster University's Morgan Milfeld, a senior from DeSoto, Mo., has been named the Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the week of October 17-23. This marks the second time this season that she has earned the honor.

Milfeld, a 5-7 forward, scored the game-winning goal over previously unbeaten Greenville College with just under seven minutes remaining in the game. She corralled a corner kick from teammate Amanda Zeier and punched it in for the game-winner.

WOMEN'S SOCCER - DEFENSIVE
Principia College's Lauren Wienecke, a senior from Tulsa, Okla. (Jenks), has been named the Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week of October 17-23. This marks the second consecutive week that she has earned the honor.

Wienecke, a center back, started and was the lone Principia player to play all 90 minutes in three games last week. She helped anchor a defense that recorded two shutouts last week and allowed only one goal on a penalty kick. The Principia defense also limited opponents to an average of three shots per game, for a total of nine shots on the week. Principia defeated Grinnell College, 3-0, and MacMurray College, 4-0, and Webster University, 2-1.

"Lauren's composure under pressure on defense allows us to be so successful," said Principia head coach Jess Semnacher. "It allows us to keep possession of the ball and attack as a team, rather than having her kick it up to our forwards for a 50/50 ball."

VOLLEYBALL - OFFENSIVE
Webster University's Jordan Vehlewald, a freshman from Wildwood, Mo. (Lafayette)., has been named the Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for the week of October 17-23.

Vehlewald, a 5-10 outside hitter, returned to the court after sitting out for the past two weeks due to injury. She tallied only two errors in 30 total attempts for a .333 attack percentage. Vehlewald also had nine digs and three block assists in the win. In a 3-0 victory (25-5, 25-12, 25-18) versus Blackburn College, Vehlewald added six kills, eight digs and four service aces.

She posted a career-best 35 digs, which also marked a season high for Webster. Abraham was also perfect in service receptions, with 27 chances and no errors. In addition, Abraham added three service aces in limited time on the court in Webster's 3-0 victory (25-5, 25-12, 25-18) versus Blackburn College.
