#3 Greenville, #4 Webster Advance to SLIAC Tournament Championship with 1-0 Victories

ST. LOUIS - Greenville College and Webster University, the #3 and #4 seeded teams in the 2011 SLIAC Men's Soccer Tournament, each won by a score of 1-0 to advance to the championship game this Saturday, November 5.

Third-seeded Greenville scored a goal in the first overtime period to defeat #2 Fontbonne University. Fourth-seeded Webster upset top-seeded Westminster College, also by a score of 1-0. Greenville will host the Gorloks this Saturday, November 5, to battle for the tournament championship. Game time has yet to be determined.

Webster's Clint Carder scored in the 34th minute on a ball from teammate Jeff Wallner that gave the Gorloks their 1-0 lead. Westminster kept on the pressure, tallying 14 total shots to the Gorloks six for the game. The Blue Jays had a goal nullified in the second half, and goalie Caleb Marquis kept his squad within striking distance when he recorded a save on a penalty kick. Webster withstood Westminster's nine shots in the second half though to hold on for the victory. Webster goalkeeper Alex Cupp finished the game with eight saves, while Marquis had three saves in goal for the Blue Jays.
