Blackburn Volleyball Promotes "Playing for More Birthdays"

CARLINVILLE, Ill. - The Blackburn College Volleyball Team recently raised money for the American Cancer Society by hosting a "Playing for More Birthdays" promotion at their contest against Westminster College. With October being breast cancer awareness month, the Beavers wanted to raise money in honor of their athletic trainer, Paula Cummings, who is a breast cancer survivor.

By selling pink t-shirts the team raised funds and will honor Cummings with a donation in her name to the American Cancer Society.

"It certainly hits much closer to home when it's someone you know and someone who is such a well-liked person in the athletic department and around campus," said Blackburn Coach Ryan Sackett.

Blackburn played the contest in pink t-shirts and a pink sock while Westminster brought Cummings some pink cupcakes to honor her. After the contest, won by Westminster in three sets, the two teams took a group photo.
