Webster Reclaims Volleyball Tournament Crown

ST. LOUIS - Webster University reclaimed the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Volleyball Tournament Championship with a 3-0 sweep against Greenville College in the title match. The Gorloks earn an automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA Division III Volleyball Tournament with the win and record their fifth tournament championship in the past six years and ninth overall.

Greenville, the #2 seed in the tournament, battled third-seeded Principia College to five sets in their semifinal match. Webster defeated fourth-seeded Westminster College (Mo.), 3-0, in the semifinals. It marked the third consecutive year that Webster and Greenville have advanced to meet in the SLIAC Tournament Championship.

Webster's Jenny Howard and Jordan Vehlewald both recorded double-doubles with 13 kills and 12 digs a piece. Vehlewald also posted a .444 attack percentage and was named the 2011 Volleyball Tournament Most Valuable Player. Howard also joined Vehlewald on the All-Tournament Team, along with Liz Abraham, who finished the match with a team-high 17 digs.

Greenville was led in the championship match by Corinne Coon with 13 kills and a .294 attack percentage. Tricia Gall added nine kills, five digs and four blocks, while Sydney Cooper tallied a match-high 27 digs. Cooper and Gall were both named to the All-Tournament Team for their performances.

Also earning All-Tournament Team honors were Principia's Kiersten Andersen and Westminster's Gracey Moon.
