Pair of Tigers and Golden Eagles Headline Honors
A pair of Tigers from Iowa Wesleyan University as well as Golden Eagles Kornell Hilliard and Trevor Massa headline the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer All-Conference awards.
Tony Odorisio was named the SLIAC Coach of the Year after leading Iowa Wesleyan to the SLIAC regular-season title. The Tigers went 8-0-1 in the SLIAC, the first time since 2016 the conference has had a team go undefeated in conference play. Iowa Wesleyan finished with a 9-8-2 overall record this season, capturing the program's first-ever SLIAC title.
One of the reasons for the Tigers' success this season was Carlos Lopez, the SLIAC Newcomer of the Year. From his midfield position, Lopez helped the Tigers transition from defense to offense and recorded 3 goals and 2 assists for 8 total points during conference play. He becomes the first Tiger in program history to receive the award.
The SLIAC Offensive Player of the Year, Kornell Hilliard, has long been one of the top scorers in the league. This year he grabs the top individual award in the SLIAC after finishing with 8 goals and 3 assists for 19 total points against conference competition. The senior forward added two game-winning goals while helping lead Spalding University to the top attack in the league. Overall this year he tallied 17 goals and 7 assists for 41 total points, giving him double-digit goals in all four years with the Golden Eagles.
The final individual award goes to Trevor Massa, as the SLIAC Defensive Player of the Year. The sophomore keeper started all nine conference games for Spalding and played in a league-high 829 minutes while finishing with a 0.76 goals-against average and leading the league in save percentage and shutouts.
In addition, Blackburn College received the SLIAC Team Sportsmanship award for the second straight year.
