Gorloks Set Program Wins Mark

This afternoon the Webster University men's soccer team took the field when they traveled to Elsah, Illinois, to take on the Principia (Ill.) College Panthers in their final game of the regular season. The Gorloks defeated the Panthers by a final score of 4-1 to improve to 17-1-1 on the season and 13-0-1 in SLIAC play. The loss moved the Panthers to 3-12-1 on the year and 3-10-1 in the conference.

It was a historic day for the Gorloks as they captured their 17th win of the season which is the most wins in a single season in program history. The previous record of 16 had stood since 1999. It was also the 16th win for Matt Coffey this season which ties Jeff Reis for the most wins as a keeper in Gorlok history in a single season.

Webster outshot the Panther 23-7 in this one and was able to put 15 of those shots on target compared to two from Principia. They also finished with 12 corner kicks compared to just one from the Panthers.

Isaac Pearson got the scoring going for the Gorloks in this one as he was able to finish off his second goal of the season in the 22nd minute of the game to give Webster a 1-0 lead. Justin Kohler had the assist, his fifth of the season.

After a goal from the Panthers to tie the score at one early in the second half, the Gorloks were able to score three goals in a 14-minute span to solidify the win. Henok Moges (2), Aamahn Murvin (14), and Justin Kohler (5) had the second-half goals for Webster. Moges and Murvin's goals were unassisted while Mark Moore had his sixth assist of the season on Kohler's tally.

Matt Coffey was between the pipes for Webster as he made one save in his 16th win of the year.

The Gorloks will be back in action on Thursday, November 4th when they host the SLIAC Men's Soccer Tournament Semifinals at World Wide Technology Soccer Park at 7:30 p.m. They will wait to see who they play after the quarterfinals on Tuesday.
