SLIAC Players of the Week - September 13

The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Players of the Week for September 13, 2021.

Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week
   

Kaleb Carlson, Greenville University

Carlson, a senior, averaged a blistering 5:28 mile pace on the course while competing at the Prairie Star Invitational. He placed 13 out of 68 runners with a time of 23:36 and helped the Panthers to a 2nd place team finish. 

     
Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week
 

Victoria Shedron, Spalding University

Shedron raced to a 3rd place finish at the Hanover Invite this past weekend. She completed the 5k race in a time of 20:08, the 4th fastest time in program history. Shedron averaged a 6:29 mile pace during the race and finished 3rd in a field of 74 runners. 

     
Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
   

Aamahn Murvin, Webster University

Murvin picks up his second straight weekly award after tallying a point in all three of the Gorloks games last week. He started the week by assisting on the only Gorlok goal of the game against Washington University. He followed with a goal in a 4-1 win over Manchester and closed out the week with a goal and two assists in a 5-0 win over Anderson. On the week Murvin recorded 2 goals and 3 assists for 7 total points.

     
Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
   

Tanner Haugen, Webster University

Haugen, a senior defender, led the Gorlok defense last week; helping them limit opponents to just four goals in three games played including one shutout. In the two Gorlok wins their defense, led by Haugen, limited opponents to just 10 shots with only 5 shots on goal.

     
Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
   

Madison Shines, Eureka College

Shines scored in both of her team's games last week including a four-goal effort against Defiance. Shines netted became the fifth Red Devil in program history to tally four goals in a game and the first since 2013. Shines scored her four goals on just six shots, putting five on net. She also had one goal in her team's 3-2 loss to Rockford.

     
Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
   

Taryn Banfield, Webster University

Banfield helped the Gorloks to a pair of wins, playing over 185 minutes in net. She played a full 90-minutes, making three saves, in a 2-1 win over Millikin. Banfield followed three days later by allowing just one goal while stopping five shots in a 2-1 overtime victory over Benedictine. On the week she finished with 8 saves and a 0.97 goals-against average with a .800 save percentage.

     
Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week
   

Eryka Wanyonyi, Westminster College

The junior outside hitter broke a Westminster program record with 30 kills in a win over Austin, a record that had stood for 26 years. Wanyonyi averaged 3.83 kills and 3.42 digs per set over five matches on the week. She totaled 92 kills, hitting .222, and added 82 digs and 12 service aces. Outside of her record-setting match, Wanyonyi also reached double-digit kills in all five matches on the week and twice totaled over 20 digs while averaging 4.5 points per set.

     
Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
   

Kyra Gensel, Webster University

Gensel totaled 49 digs in just two matches for the Gorloks last week, helping them go 1-1 including a win in the conference opening match. She had a career-high 30 digs against Illinois College and followed with 19 digs in a win over Spalding. On the week she averaged 5.44 digs per set while adding two service aces.

     

Other Notables:

  • Lauren Borik, Webster University (Volleyball) Totaled 39 kills and 32 digs in two matches on the week.
  • Hannah Gallagher, Fontbonne University (Volleyball) Recorded a double-double with 15 kills and 12 digs against Health Sciences and Pharmacy.
  • Chasity Hill, Greenville University (Volleyball) Averaged 5.33 digs per set in four matches.
  • Molly Kovarik, Fontbonne University (Soccer) Buried both goals in a 2-0 win over Carthage.
  • Jasmin Smith, Greenville University (Volleyball) Had 11 kills and 13 digs in a win over Wilmington.
