SLIAC Players of the Week - September 7

The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Players of the Week for September 7, 2021.

Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week
   

Gianni Estrada, Greenville University

Estrada followed up his SLIAC Runner of the Year award from the spring by winning the first Runner of the Week for the fall season. The sophomore finished his 6K race in a time of 19:02 with mile splits of 4:59, 4:57, and 5:09. Estrada finished 2nd overall in a field of 31 runners while competing against Washington University at Forest Park's gravel trail.

     
Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week
 

Emme Schaefer, Principia College

After missing out at the championships in the spring, Schaefer started the fall season with a 1st place finish while Principia hosted conference foe Webster in a season-opening meet. Schaefer finished the 4K course with a time of 16:17, setting a new personal best time by 43-seconds.

     
Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
   

Aamahn Murvin, Webster University

Murvin, last season's leading scorer in the conference, opened his 2021 season by notching a goal in each of his team's first two games. The senior forward tallied a goal on four shots in Webster's 4-1 season-opening win over Illinois College. Murvin followed with the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Trine. On the week he put four of his seven shots on goal, finishing with two goals and four total points.

     
Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
   

Jacob Klevorn, Webster University

Klevorn stepped into the net twice last week for the Gorloks and in 131:23 of action, he allowed no goals while stopping four shots. Klevorn played 41:23 of scoreless action against Illinois College. He then played all 90-minutes of his team's 1-0 win over Trine, finishing the week with a perfect 1.000 save percentage.

     
Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
   

Baeli Young, Spalding University

Young, a sophomore, picked up a pair of goals and one assist in the season's opening week. She recorded one goal, the game-winner, and one assist in helping Spalding to a 4-1 season-opening win over Berea. Young followed by scoring her team's only goal in a loss to Trine. On the week Young finished with 5 total points, scoring two goals on just four shots.   

     
Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
   

Jordan Schneider, Spalding University

The sophomore keeper for Spalding made two starts on the week, playing the first half of both contests. She stopped all seven shots in her action against Berea, picking up the win. Schneider then played 45-minutes against Trine, allowing two goals while making four saves. On the week Schneider totaled 11 saves and finished with a .846 save percentage and a 2.00 goals-against average.

     
Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week
   

Lauren Borik, Webster University

Borik, the defending conference Player of the Year, helped the Gorloks go 3-2 on the opening week. The junior averaged 3.59 kills and 2.34 digs per set on the week while hitting an impressive .434 on her attempts. She had three matches with double-digit kills including a high of 19 against #14 ranked Texas-Dallas. Borik also had 11 digs in that match. She added nine total blocks and finished with 61 kills, 40 digs, and 69 total points on the week.

     
Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
   

Jordyn Fox, Eureka College

Fox paced the Red Devil defense, averaging 3.92 digs per set over three matches last week. The junior reached double-digit digs twice including a high of 33 digs in five sets against Rockford. 

     

Other Notables:

  • Desiree Brooks, Fontbonne University (Cross Country) Set a personal record in the 4K with a time of 18:33.
  • Luis Duran, Greenville University (Soccer) Scored the game-winner, an overtime goal, against Rose-Hulman.
  • Georgia Rathers, Principia College (Soccer) Notched both of her team's goals in a 2-2 tie against the University of Health Science and Pharmacy in St. Louis.
  • Brooklyn Shell, Eureka College (Volleyball) Had 22 kills in a five-set loss to Rockford, adding 10 aces on the week.
