SLIAC Players of the Week - September 20

The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Players of the Week for September 20, 2021.

Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week
   

Nathan Freyling, Webster University

Competing in the Larry Young Invitational, Nathan Freyling finished 21st in a field of 151 runners, the first Gorlok to cross the finish line. He completed the 8K course with a time of 27:36, a pace of 5:33 per mile. 

     
Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week
 

Danielle Schultz, Webster University

Schultz finished 6th individually at the Larry Young Invitational in a field of 129 runners. The junior crossed with a time of 19:33 on the 5K course; an average mile pace of 6:18. 

     
Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
   

Barrett Smith, Westminster College

A senior, Barrett Smith helped the Blue Jays pick up a 4-2 win over Greenville in the team's conference opener. Smith netted a pair of goals in the win including the game-winner at the 32-minute mark of the first half on a penalty kick. Smith did his damage on just two shots. 

     
Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
   

Henok Moges, Webster University

Moges, a senior defender, helped lead the Gorlok defense to a shutout win over Blackburn College in their conference opener. The Gorlok defense limited the Beavers to just eight shots in the game including only four on goal.

     
Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
   

Jordan Lande, Webster University

Lande was part of a Gorlok attack that netted double-digit goals in back-to-back games. The senior netted 5 goals, adding 2 assists, in the two games for 12 total points. She recorded 2 goals and 2 assists in an 11-0 win over Illinois College. Lande followed with a hat-trick in a 13-0 win over Blackburn.

     
Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
   

Mary Beers, Fontbonne University

Beers completed her week with a 1-0-1 record in net, holding a 0.45 goals-against average and making six stops. Beers had three saves in picking up a shutout win over Principia, the 16th shutout of her Griffin career. She followed with three more saves in 110-minutes in a tie against Spalding. She finished the week with a .857 save percentage.

     
Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week
   

Anna Finch, Greenville University

Finch led the Panthers to a 4-1 record on the week including a win in their conference opener. The senior middle blocker finished with 50 kills in her five matches including 23 total blocks. Finch reached double-digit kills in four of the matches with a high of 15 in a win over Monmouth. She had at least three total blocks in all five matches, averaging 1.35 blocks per set. On the week Finch hit .309 and averaged 2.94 kills and 3.7 points per set.

     
Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
   

Chasity Hill, Greenville University

Hill, a junior, led the Panther defense with 75 digs in five matches last week; as the team picked up four wins. Hill had double-digit digs in four of the matches with a high of 21 in her team's conference-opening win over Westminster. She averaged 4.41 digs per set on the week.

  • Walter Lazo, Principia College (Soccer) Recorded 1 goal and 3 assist in a win over Eureka, totaling five points.
  • Chadrack Mulondani, Spalding University (Soccer) Tallied 2 goals and 1 assist in a win over Fontbonne.
  • Caroline Neal, Fontbonne University (Soccer) Neal netted her first career hat-trick in a win over Principia. 
  • Mary Nelson, Webster University (Volleyball) Recorded 16 kills, 20 assists, and 11 digs in a win over Illinois College.
  • Emma Pramik, Fontbonne University (Volleyball) Had 48 digs in two matches last week with a high of 27 against Spalding.
  • McKenna Short, Spalding University (Volleyball) Finished with 16 kills and 10 digs while hitting .353 in a win over Fontbonne.
