Highlander Trio Have Record Day

Janelle Benson reached a career milestone, Carissa Smith set a new single-game digs record and the MacMurray College volleyball team closed out the Knox College Tournament with a pair of wins over St. Mary of the Woods and Knox. In the win over SMWC, Benson tallied her 1,000thcareer assist. In the win over Knox, Smith totaled 39 digs – believed to be a MacMurray single-game record. Additionally, in game two, Kamryn Flesner had eight service aces – believed to be a single-game school record. 
 
GAME ONE: MacMurray 3 St. Mary of the Woods 0
 
The Highlanders made quick work of the Pomeroys, taking the match in straight sets – 25-19, 25-23, 25-17. Flesner, a sophomore, led the team with 13 kills and 13 digs while adding five service aces. Olivia Wall contributed nine kills for the Highlanders. Smith was the only other Highlander to finish with double digit digs, with a team-high 18. Gretchen Durbala dished up 20 assists while Benson added 16, including her milestone one.
 
GAME TWO: MacMurray 3 Knox 2
 
After falling on the wrong end of two five-set matches last night, the Highlanders battled back, after dropping the first two sets to defeat the host school. Picking up right where she left off, Flesner led the squad with 22 kills and had 14 digs. Wall recorded 12 kills and now sits just five away from 1,000 for her career. Smith's record 39 digs led the team, as Benson added 15 and Lexie Moore tallied 13. Benson (26 assists) and Durbala (20 assists) controlled the Highlander offense. MacMurray will play a pair of matches on Friday at Central College. The Highlanders will play North Central at 5 p.m. followed by the hosts at 7 p.m.
