Finch and Farrah Lead All-Conference Honors

Finch and Farrah Lead All-Conference Honors

Kristen Farrah becomes just the second player in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference history to repeat as the league's Volleyball Defensive Player of the Year. She is joined by Anna Finch, Eryka Wanyonyi, and Joana Ramsey as the top individual award winners for the 2019 SLIAC Volleyball season.

Farrah, a junior libero, was a stalwart for the Webster University defense. She totaled 390 digs in just 18 conference matches this season, averaging 6.19 digs per set. Both totals led the SLIAC and her overall 6.71 dig average ranks 2nd in NCAA Division III. Farrah had three matches against conference opponents in which she recorded over 30 digs and had a high of 42 digs this season. In just two seasons as the starting libero, she set the Gorlok career dig record and is the single-season and single match leader as well. She joins former Greenville University libero Jamie Schollenbruch as the only two-time SLIAC Defensive Player of the Year.

Anna Finch was selected as the SLIAC Player of the Year. Finch, a middle blocker, led Greenville University to a SLIAC regular-season title and is a force both offensively and defensively. Finch recorded 184 kills and 48 blocks during conference play, leading the league with a .450 hitting percentage. She ranked 6th in kills and kills per set, 5th in points per set, and 2nd in blocks per set. She had nine conference matches with double-digit kills including a high of 21. Overall this season Finch led Greenville with 258 kills, averaging 2.84 per set while hitting .428 with 77 total blocks.

Eryka Wanyonyi becomes the 7th Blue Jay in program history to receive the SLIAC Newcomer of the Year award. The outside hitter stepped right into the Westminster rotation, starting all 25 games as a freshman. As Wanyonyi got into conference play she increased her output, totaling 215 kills and ranking 4th in the league at 3.52 kills per set while hitting .209. She added 247 digs, averaging 4.05 per set and both numbers put her in the top ten in the league. Wanyonyi recorded 13 double-digit kill matches against conference opponents with a high of 24 this season.

The 2019 SLIAC Coach of the Year goes to MacMurray College's Joana Ramsey. Ramsey stepped into the head coaching role for the Highlanders this year and promptly lead the program to its first postseason appearance since 2005. MacMurray went 17-15 overall this season, finishing in 4th place in the SLIAC standings with a 12-6 conference record. It marks their first winning record in over a decade.

In addition, Principia College was recognized with the SLIAC Team Sportsmanship award for their consistent sportsmanship throughout the season.
