Three Repeat as Athletes of the Week

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has announced the spring sports players of the week for the week of March 28-April 3.

BASEBALL - PITCHER
Spalding University's Jake Wardrip, a senior from Louisville, Ky. (St. Xavier), has been named the Diamond Sports SLIAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 28-April 3.

Wardrip, a 6-0 left-handed pitcher, threw his third complete game shutout of the season with a 1-0 victory against Fontbonne University. In 7.0 innings on the mound he struck out 10 batters and allowed only four hits.

BASEBALL - HITTER
Webster University's Anthony Genna, a senior from Willow Springs, Ill. (Lyons Township), has been named the Diamond Sports SLIAC Baseball Hitter of the Week for the week of March 28-April 3.

Genna, a 6-2 shortstop, went 7-for-14 (.500) at the plate with seven runs, three doubles and five RBI in five games played last week. He also had three sacrifice flies and was 4-of-4 in stolen base attempts.

Genna went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two runs and one RBI in a 9-3 SLIAC win on the road at Blackburn College. He added four hits, four runs, one double and one RBI in a 15-0 shutout against the Beavers that completed the three-game conference sweep in favor of the Gorloks.

SOFTBALL - PITCHER
Blackburn College's Jessica Eichholz, a junior from Washington, Mo., has been named the SLIAC Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 28-April 3.

Eichholz, a 5-9 right-handed pitcher, recorded four of Blackburn's six victories last week, three of which were complete game victories. She also had 12 strikeouts for the week.

Eichholz threw a complete game shutout against Greenville College. She struck out two batters while allowing only four hits and three walks. Eichholz hung on for a 4-3, complete game victory against Westminster College. She had three strikeouts in the win and gave up only one walk and two earned runs. In the second game of the double header against the Blue Jays, she took the mound in relief and struck out two batters in 5.1 innings of work en route to the 16-13 win.

Eichholz finished the week with a 16-7 complete game victory versus Robert Morris-Springfield. She recorded five strikeouts in 5.0 innings on the mound and allowed no walks and only two earned runs.

SOFTBALL - HITTER
Blackburn College's Grace Young, a senior from Millstadt, Ill. (Belleville West), has been named the SLIAC Softball Hitter of the Week for the week of March 28-April 3. This marks the second time this season that she has earned the honor.

Young, a 5-8 outfielder, hit. 565 (13-for-23) at the plate with 17 RBI, 11 runs, four home runs and three doubles in six games played last week. She also went 5-of-6 in stolen base attempts and had 21 putouts and one assist in the field. Young started the week with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate with one double, one home run and three RBI in a 7-0 shutout versus Greenville College. She added a three-run home run in game two versus Greenville to help the Beavers record the sweep with an 8-7 win.

Young had three hits, three RBI and went 4-of-4 in stolen base attempts in a two-game conference sweep over Westminster College. She ended the week by going 4-for-5 at the plate with three runs, three RBI, one double and one home run in a 19-13 win against Robert Morris-Springfield. Young added two hits, two runs, one double, one home run and five RBI in game two in which the Beavers won 16-7.

MEN'S GOLF
Webster University's Kyler Scott, a sophomore from Culver, Ind. (Culver Military Academy), has been named the SLIAC Men's Golfer of the Week for the week of March 28-April 3.

Scott finished in a tie for 11th place at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational against a field that included some of the top players in the region. He shot a three-over par 75 in round one and an 80 in round two for a 155 final score. Scott also helped lead the Gorloks to an 11th place finish out of 22 teams competing. Webster posted a team score of 324-324--648.

MEN'S TENNIS
Greenville College's Joe Newlin, a senior from St. Louis, Mo. (McCluer), has been named the SLIAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the week of March 28-April 3. This marks the second time this season that he has earned the honor.

Newlin posted a 4-0 record at #1 singles and 3-1 at #1 doubles, as the Panthers went 2-2 last week. Newlin swept Fontbonne University's Bryton Curtis 6-0, 6-0 in singles play, while he also battled Westminster's Tony Stephenson to a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 victory. Newlin also had two non-conference singles victories last week, 6-2, 6-2 against Berea College and 6-2, 6-4 against Asbury College.

In doubles action, Newlin partnered with teammate Ian Wolf to win 8-3 against Fontbonne, 8-1 against Berea and 8-6 versus Asbury.

WOMEN'S TENNIS
Westminster College's Sarah Heeter, a freshman from Columbia, Mo. (Rockbridge), has been named the SLIAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the week of March 28-April 3.

Heeter went undefeated at #1 singles and 2-2 at #1 doubles against four conference opponents last week. She swept Fontbonne University's Maggie Pohl 6-0, 6-0 in singles action, while battling through a 7-6 first set to defeat Webster University's Allison Tungate 6-2 in the second set. Heeter also defeated Greenville College's Jamie Harling 6-3, 6-2 and Eureka College's Natalie Wetterauer 6-2, 6-2.

Heeter, along with teammate Megan Slayton, posted an 8-0 win at #1 doubles versus Fontbonne and an 8-4 win against Eureka. Their two losses were to Greenville and Webster with scores of 6-8, 4-8 respectively.

MEN'S TRACK
Greenville College's Brian White, a junior from Harvey, Ill. (Harvey Thorton), has been named the SLIAC Men's Track Performer of the Week for the week of March 28-April 3.

White placed first out of 59 competitors at the WUSTL Invitational with his NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 10.69 seconds in the 100-meter dash. It was a career best for White and currently ranks him second in NCAA Division III.

White was also part of the 4x100 team that placed first out of 16 teams in the event with a time of 42.03 seconds. Greenville placed third out of 23 schools competing at the Invitational with a final score of 62.

MEN'S FIELD
Greenville College's EJ Fridge, a freshman from Cahokia, Ill., has been named the SLIAC Men's Field Performer of the Week for the week of March 28-April 3.

Fridge posted three career best marks at the WUSTL Invitational last weekend. He placed fifth out of 35 competitors with a 45'3.5" throw in the shot put. He also placed fifth in the hammer throw with a throw of 144', and Fridge finished 10th out of 32 competitors in the discus throw with a mark of 126'10".

Greenville placed third out of 23 teams competing with a final score of 62.

WOMEN'S TRACK
Principia College's Casey Powell, a sophomore from Colorado Springs, Colo., has been named the SLIAC Women's Track Performer of the Week for the week of March 28-April 3.

Powell placed ninth out of 48 runners in the 800-meter run at the WUSTL Invitational. She posted a time of 2:22.75, beating her previous personal record by nearly six seconds. The time also places her second on Principia's all-time top 10 list and is only a second off a 30-year old school record.

WOMEN'S FIELD
Greenville College's Penny Grant, a junior from Beardstown, Ill., has been named the SLIAC Women's Field Performer of the Week for the week of March 28-April 3. This marks the second consecutive week that she has earned the honor.

Grant placed second out of 10 competitors in the triple jump at the WUSTL Invitational with a NCAA provisional mark of 38'11". It also ranks her fourth in NCAA DIII and broke the school record by more than two feet. Grant also placed second in the long jump with a distance of 18'1.5".

Greenville finished seventh out of 24 teams competing with a team score of 51.
