MEN'S SOCCER - DEFENSIVE
Greenville College's Steve Beam, a sophomore from St. Louis, Mo. (DeSmet), has been named the Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week of October 4-10.

Beam, a center back, anchored the Panthers defense in their 1-0 victory versus Principia College and a 1-1 double overtime draw against Fontbonne University. The Griffins goal was the first goal Greenville's defense has conceded in five conference games this season.

"Steve's defensive organization and ability to maintain defensive shape helped us shut down our opponents' attack," said head coach Brian McMahon. "He was especially strong in his defending one-on-one situations."

WOMEN'S SOCCER - OFFENSIVE
Blackburn College's Samantha Ferguson, a freshman from Jerseyville, Ill., has been named the Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the week of October 4-10. This marks the second time this season that she has earned the honor.

She scored the lone goal for the Panthers in a 2-1 non-conference loss to Millikin University, while also tallying an assist in a 2-0 victory versus Greenville College. Principia went 2-1 on the week with a 6-0 shutout against Spalding University.

"Cristina [Post] was a dangerous player both offensively and defensively in each game last week," commented head coach Lee Ellis. "Against Greenville she was arguably the strongest player for us, making runs down the flank and creating a number of opportunities for Principia's attack, including assisting the first and game-winning goal. Defensively she helped shut down the Greenville attack, including a goal line clearance that helped preserve the clean sheet."
