Andersen and Behrle Take Top SLIAC Honors

Andersen and Behrle Take Top SLIAC Honors

Hanne Andersen and Monica Behrle were awarded the top St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference individual honors for the 2015 season while Webster's Martha Davis-Goldstein was named Coach of the Year.

Hanne Andersen, a junior from Orinda, Calif., went 14-4 in singles play this year as her team's top player. Andersen capped her season with a win in the SLIAC Tournament, finishing the season with an eight match winning streak. She becomes the program's tenth player to be named conference player of the year, the first since Carlie Sanderude in 2013. Andersen added 13 wins from the #1 doubles team this year as well.

Monica Behrle, a freshman from Atlanta, Ga., had a record setting performance for the Gorloks this season. She is currently 20-1 overall in singles play setting a program record for singles wins in a season, mainly at #2 singles. In addition Behrle played #2 doubles for most of the year where she recorded 15 more wins. Behrle is the fourth Gorlok to be named SLIAC Newcomer of the Year, the last coming in 2007 when Kelsey O'Keefe received the honor.

Martha Davis-Goldstein is the 2015 SLIAC Coach of the Year after leading her team to the SLIAC Tournamen title for the first time since 2012. Davis-Goldstein is in her third season as the head coach of the Gorloks and led them to a 14-4 overall record and an undefeated record in conference play this season. This is the first time Davis-Goldstein has taken home the conference's top coaching honors.

In addition Westminster College was awarded the 2015 SLIAC Women's Tennis Team Sportsmanship Award. This award is given to the team whose players, coaches and fans best exhibit the principles of good sportsmanship. The SLIAC also recognizes one individual from each team, selected by his coach and teammates, who throughout the season best displays the ideals of sportsmanship.
