Three Fontbonne Softball Players Earn NFCA Midwest Region Honors

ST. LOUIS - Fontbonne University sophomores Cassie Glixman and Danni Glixman were named to the NCAA Division III National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Midwest Region First team, while junior Marissa Simon was named Second Team All-Region.

Both Glixman sisters were selected to the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) First Team All-Conference and are both tied for second in the SLIAC with 57 hits on the season.

First baseman Cassie hits in the #3 spot. Cassie has been patient recently, allowing herself to see more pitches and take advantage of pitching mistakes, setting Danni up for RBI opportunities. She finished the year with 18 walks (#5 in SLIAC players), was second in the league with 15 doubles, tied for third with three triples, tied #8 with 10 stolen bases, and tied for second with 45 runs. Cassie finished with a .422 batting average this year, good enough for fifth in the SLIAC.

Third baseman Danni is the clean-up hitter in the #4 spot. Danni finished the year first in the SLIAC in runs batted in with 54, third with 12 doubles, and fourth in batting with a .438 batting average.

Shortstop Simon completed her 2013 season tied for third with 12 doubles, fourth in the SLIAC with 39 runs batted in, fifth in home runs tallying eight, tied for eighth in the league with 10 stolen bases, and led the SLIAC with 58 hits. Simon finished with a .382 batting average.

These three student-athletes are among only 45 other Division III honorees.

NFCA Division III All-Americans will be announced Thursday at the NCAA championship banquet.
