Montgomery Breaks SLIAC Scoring Record

BOX SCORE

Spalding University's Marcus Montgomery broke the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference single-game scoring record with a 55 point outing against Greenville University on Saturday. Montgomery, a 5'10" junior guard from Louisville, Ky., dazzled the home crowd with his performance despite the Golden Eagles falling to the visiting Panthers 145-133.

Montgomery topped his previous career-high of 51 points set last year against Greenville and upped the mark while surpassing the previous SLIAC record of 53 points set by Webster University's Jeff Reis in 2001. Montgomery finished Saturday's game by going 23-of-33 from the field, connecting on 5 three-pointers and adding 4 free-throws. He tallied 26 points in the first half and added 29 points in the second half.

There have been six occasions a SLIAC player has topped 50 points in a conference game; Jeff Reis, Webster (53); Dakota Bennington, Eureka (51); Jarryd Fernandez, Iowa Wesleyan (51); Derek Suttles, MacMurray (50); and Montgomery's two outings.
