Webster To Host NCAA Division III Central Regional
For the third consecutive year, Webster University and the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has been approved to host the 2018 Central Regional of the NCAA Division III Baseball Championships.
This year's Central Regional Tournament will be held at GCS Ballpark in Sauget, Ill., on May 17-21, with the winner advancing to the NCAA Division III National Championships at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute, Wis., on May 25-29. GCS Ballpark is the home facility for the Webster University Gorloks baseball program.
"Webster University is honored to once again host the NCAA Division III Central Regional Baseball Championships. This is the third year in a row the NCAA has awarded Webster University the bid, which confirms the great job our staff does administering this very important championship," Webster University Director of Athletics Scott Kilgallon said. "We have been fortunate to partner with GCS Ballpark General Manager Steve Gomric to hold this event in a top-notch $15 million dollar minor league baseball facility located in Sauget, Ill. As we have done in the past two years, our goal is as always to provide the student-athletes with a superb experience at this important NCAA event."
Last season, Webster earned an at-large berth in the Central Regional Tournament where they earned the No. 4 seed and fell in the opening round to No. 3 seeded Wartburg College (3-0) and then suffered a 6-4 setback to Birmingham Southern University on the second day of the double-elimination tournament.
Over the past 12 seasons, Webster has advanced to the NCAA Tournament 10 times, including earning a spot in the Division III Championships in 2012, 2013 and 2015 and is 21-23 all-time in the NCAA Tournament. In addition, the Gorloks have also won 11 consecutive SLIAC regular season titles and have taken home the SLIAC Tournament championship trophy eight times in the last 12 years.

GCS Ballpark is home to the Gateway Grizzlies of the independent Frontier League. GCS Ballpark seats 6000 and is located off I-255 in Sauget, just north of Cahokia, in sight of the Gateway Arch.
