Butler Reaches 1,000 Career Points

The Iowa Wesleyan men's basketball team traveled Lincoln, Nebraska this weekend to participate in the NWU Snyder Classic. They were one of four teams to compete in the tournament, and their first-round game was against the host school, Nebraska Wesleyan University.  The Tigers were outmatched by the Prairie Wolves and lost 117-54 yesterday.

IW opened the game with a pair of free throws by Jarryd Fernandes(FR/Rozelle, NSW, Australia), but that would be the only lead the Tigers would hold all game.  Iowa Wesleyan was unable to get their offense going in the opening minutes of the first half.  Nebraska Wesleyan had built a ten point lead by the 14:21 minute mark.  The Tigers shot just 20 percent from the field and failed to hit a three-point shot in the first half of play.  IW trailed 56-19 as the teams headed to the locker rooms.

Austin Banks (SO/Apopka, FL) scored the first points of the second half for Iowa Wesleyan. He hit the team's first three-pointer with 18:14 on the clock. The Tigers' next two baskets were three-pointers as well, with Jarryd Fernandes and Brock Butler (SR/Palmyra, MO) connecting from behind the arc. Nebraska Wesleyan was too much for IW to handle, however, as the Prairie Wolves continued to add to their lead.  Iowa Wesleyan dropped their first-round game of the tournament, falling 117-54 to Nebraska Wesleyan.

Butler moved into 26th on Iowa Wesleyan's All-Time leading scorer's list with a team-high 17 points yesterday.  He now has 1,009 career points during his time at Iowa Wesleyan.  Butler also grabbed a team-high six rebounds yesterday.  Jarryd Fernandes added 12 points for the Tigers in the loss.

Iowa Wesleyan will take on Carroll University at 3 pm this afternoon.  The Tigers are 0-5 to start the season.
