Titans Topple Gorloks in NCAA Women's Opener, 82-70

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Webster University women's basketball team saw its 2010-11 season come to an end with a first round loss in the NCAA Division III Tournament, 82-70, to host Illinois Wesleyan University on March 4. Any momentum from the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament championship couldn't carry the Gorloks over the experienced Titans.

Webster fell behind 11-3 to start the game and 44-26 at the half. Sixteen first-half turnovers for the Gorloks led to 17 Titan points off those turnovers. The Gorloks made an 11-4 run to start the half, bolstered by two Maggie Zehner (SO, Oakville HS) three-pointers. But the Titans' seasoned lineup, featuring three seniors and two juniors, held off the Webster challenge to the lead. The young Gorloks often utilized a lineup that featured two-three sophomores and one freshman.

Katy Meyer (SR, Parkway Central HS) ended her storied career as a Gorlok, leading the team with 19 points and tied Tori Fenemor (SO, St. Charles HS) with seven rebounds. Fenemor had a season high 17 points on six of eight shooting from the field and had four steals. Meyer was five of seven from behind the arc. Maggie Zehner (SO, Oakville HS) had 14 points and handed out four assists.

Meyer and Molly Zehner (Oakville HS) played their final games for the Gorloks. Zehner played two years for Webster after transferring from Meramec Community College and was a part of the solid 2009 recruiting class. Meyer finishes a record-breaking four-year career, culminating in her being named a finalist for the Josten's Trophy this past week.
