Greenville Clinches First SLIAC Regular Season Title In Two Decades

The Greenville University women's basketball team clinched the program's first St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular-season title since the 1996-97 season with a win over Spalding University on Wednesday night. The Panthers improved to 14-1 in conference play this season and have one more game in the regular season before hosting the 2018 SLIAC Women's Basketball Tournament next weekend on Feb. 23 and Feb. 24.

Greenville defeated Spalding 71-58, coming back from a second-half deficit of three points. The Panthers went into the fourth quarter tied at 51-51 and outscored the host Golden Eagles 20-7 in the final quarter to secure the win. Maria Reinhard led the way for Greenville with 16 points.

This is just the second regular season SLIAC title for the program and the first time the school will play host to the conference women's basketball tournament, as they were ineligible to host during their previous regular season title year. Their 14 conference wins this season are tied for the most in program history, joining the 2015-16 squad.
