SLIAC Runners Conclude 2022 Season at Nationals

The 2022 cross country season came to a close this weekend with a pair of runners from the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference competing at the NCAA Division III Championships in Lansing, Mich. Gianni Estrada and Kyanne Williams became the first male and female duo from the SLIAC to qualify for nationals in the same season since 2012.

Estrada, from Greenville University, placed 55th at nationals with a time of 25:46 on the 8K course. Estrada averaged a 5:12 per kilometer with his best time coming in the third kilometer with a 4:34. He was the first Panther to appear at nationals since 2005 and the fifth all-time in program history. MIT won the team title with a score of 82 while Alex Phillips, from John Carroll, was the individual champion with a time of 24:37.

Williams, from Webster University, placed 259th with a time of 24:44 in the 6K race. A senior, she made a move at the end of the race; moving up 15 spots in the final 2.2 kilometers. John Hopkins won its second consecutive championship with a team score of 144. Kassie Parker was the individual champion as she took first place with a time of 21:06. Her time of 21:06 was 43 seconds faster than the next closest competitor.
