Graves Named NCAA Division III FAR of the Year

Fontbonne University Faculty Athletics Representative Kay Graves won NCAA Division III FAR of the Year.

"What a well-deserved recognition for someone who has put so much time, energy, effort, and passion into being a FAR," said Director of Athletics Danielle Doerfler. "Kay has been the true description of what a FAR should be. She attends our athletic events, supporting the student-athletes while advocating and assisting their relationship with the faculty."

Doerfler added, "Kay has also diligently worked on the conference and national level to educate and empower the FAR position. So happy for her and this honor, could not have happened to a better colleague and true supporter of Fontbonne Athletics and NCAA Division III. Congrats Kay!"

The FAR of the Year award recognizes a Faculty Athletics Representative who made significant contributions on their campus, in their conference and within their respective division. The FAR of the Year award, above all, recognizes significant service to student-athletes, to institutions, to intercollegiate athletics, and to the FAR community.

"Receiving the FAR of the Year award this year is a great honor," said Graves. "I've been lucky enough to represent Fontbonne University as a Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR) since 2011 and over these many years I've seen our student-athletes in more than one light. I see students in the classroom, but seeing them on their playing fields/courts allows me to see them as a more rounded person as they show leadership or teamwork skills that'll carry with them throughout their lives in so many facets."

She continued, "While being a FAR, I've served on the SLIAC Administrative Council. This has allowed me to meet colleagues from across the council and be part of making our sports programs the best they can be while keeping the "student" first and foremost. Also, I've been an active member of the FARA organization and was elected to serve on the Executive Team for three years and on the Legislative Review Committee a few times. This allowed me to make many friends within the NCAA organization and across the states while providing resources for other FARs to be the best they can be in this role."
