Webster Sweeps Track & Field, Principia Sweeps Tennis Player of the Week Honors

St. Louis, Mo. - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has announced the Players of the Week for the week of March 19-25.

BASEBALL - PITCHER
Spalding University's Tyler Brown, a sophomore from Joliet, Ill. (Joliet West), has been named the Diamond Sports Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 19-25.

Brown, a 5-11 left-handed hurler, struck out eight batters and recorded a 2-0 complete game shutout to help the Golden Eagles in their three-game sweep over Eureka College. In 7.0 innings on the mound he allowed five hits and walked only one batter as he tallied his sixth win of the season.

BASEBALL - HITTER
Webster University's Alex Kazmierski, a junior from Orange, Ill. (Carl Sandburg), has been named the Diamond Sports Baseball Hitter of the Week for the week of March 19-25.

Kazmierski, an outfielder, had a .600 on-base percentage for the week, reaching base a total of 15 times in five games played. He went 8-for-18 (.444) at the plate with five RBI and three doubles, while also going 4-of-4 in stolen base attempts. Kazmierski's best outing for the week was a 3-for-4 performance with two RBI and two doubles in a 17-0 victory versus Principia College.

SOFTBALL - HITTER
Eureka College's Kelli Dunne, a junior from Peoria, Ill. (Richwoods), has been named the Softball Hitter of the Week for the week of March 19-25.

Dunne finished the week with a .579 batting average, two home runs and nine RBI in six starts at second base. She had four multi-hit games during the week, including a 4-for-4 effort with three doubles and two RBI against Monmouth College (Ill.). Dunne also drove in a career-high four runs against Westminster College (Mo.) last week.

MEN'S TENNIS
Principia College's Jason Wissman, a freshman from Westlake, Ohio, has been named the Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the week of March 19-25.

Wissman went undefeated in both singles and doubles action last week. He posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory at #2 Singles and an 8-0 victory at #1 Doubles versus Central Christian College. Wissman only lost one game last week, as he defeated Eureka College's Nick Stein, 6-1, 6-0, at #1 Singles. Wissman and teammate Paul Sanderude also won 8-0 at #1 Doubles against Eureka.

WOMEN'S TENNIS
Principia College's Courtney Banko, a senior from Lakewood, Wash. (Annie Wright), has been named the Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the week of March 19-25.

Banko posted a 3-0 record at #5 Singles and 2-1 at #1 Doubles as Principia went 2-1 last week. In singles action she recorded two, 6-0, 6-0, shutouts versus Central Christian College and Eureka College. Banko also battled to a 6-2, 7-5 victory versus Illinois Wesleyan University, the lone match victory in the 8-1 loss.

In doubles play, Banko and teammate Kelly Adams won 8-2 against Central Christian, 8-5 against Eureka and lost a tough 9-8 (2) match at #1 doubles to Illinois Wesleyan.

MEN'S TRACK
Webster University's Aaron Oberneufemann, a junior from Mt. Olive, Ill., has been named the Men's Track Athlete of the Week for the week of March 19-25.

Oberneufemann posted a time of 50.90 seconds in the 400-meter at the Rhodes Invitational to place seventh out of 27 runners competing. His time is a new school record in the 400m, as he bested the time of 51.07 he ran last season.

WOMEN'S TRACK
Webster University's Jenny Howard, a freshman from Florissant, Mo. (Duchesne), has been named the Women's Track Athlete of the Week for the week of March 19-25.

Howard set school records in both the 100-meter and 200-meter at the Rhodes Invitational. She posted a time of 12.53 seconds in the 100m and 26.07 seconds in the 200m to place ninth and sixth respectively.

WOMEN'S FIELD
Webster University's Gretchen Rieger, a senior from Trenton, Ill. (Wesclin), has been named the Women's Field Athlete of the Week for the week of March 19-25.

Rieger won the javelin at the Rhodes Invitational with a throw of 33.35 meters. It was her first competition this season, and she placed first out of 17 competitors made up of NCAA Division II and III athletes.
