Webster University Baseball Squad Welcomed Home

The 2012 Webster University baseball team was welcomed back to campus in style, as a group of students, staff, and faculty, greeted the tired Gorloks on May 29...right off a nine-hour bus ride. The celebration of a successful season that culminated in a NCAA III World Series appearance, was coordinated by Student Affairs, University Relations, and Webster Athletics.

A crowd of roughly 150 onlookers cheered the baseball coaching staff, led by head coach Bill Kurich, that first emerged from the Cavallo chariot. A steady stream of smiling, wide or sleepy-eyed, and surprised, Gorlok baseball players followed one-by-one, making their way through the crowd. Many of the fans held signs as chants of "Gorloks, Gorloks!," rang out as the team made its way up the sidewalk on the west side of the University Center to the patio off the Quad.

There, the coaches and team gathered under a large banner welcoming the team back. Tom Hart, Athletic Director, introduced Kurich, who thanked the crowd and the team's followers for support the team received from those who made the trek to Appleton, WI, and those back at home.

Webster University President Dr. Beth Stroble thanked the team as well and spoke of the pride the Webster community had in them, and of the recognition they had brought to the Univesity. St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Commissioner Will Wolper was in attendance as well.

After the speeches, players, coaches, and fans alike mingled as they shared a Ted Drewes frozen custard, provided by the University. A special time marked an end to a special season.
