Independence Day Recognition for Webster Baseball

ST. LOUIS - Throngs of well-wishers saw the 2012 Webster University baseball team on display, featured on a float in the Webster Groves Community Days Parade on July 4. Heat that was already blazing early in the day, and knowledge that the traditional fireworks would not go off later that evening, did little to diminish the numbers of those along the parade route, estimated to be in the tens of thousands.

Webster baseball team players, coaches, and former players rode on a long flatbed truck that was adorned with a colorful banner proclaiming the team's NCAA III World Series appearance. Members of the Webster University community paraded along with the float. The Gorlok faithful braved the heat as they made the two-mile walk along Lockwood Avenue, then Elm Avenue, in downtown Webster Groves.

The 2012 Gorlok baseball team won the SLIAC Tournament and the swept the NCAA III Millington Regional Championship. Advancing to the NCAA III World Series for the first time in team history, Webster finished ranked eighth nationally in the NCAA III in the final 2012 ABCA Poll.
