SLIAC Players of the Week - February 22

 

Men's Basketball Player of the Week
 

Chris Daniels, Eureka College

Daniels buoyed the Red Devils in an 85-78 win over Iowa Wesleyan, scoring a team-high 21 points and dishing out five assists with no turnovers. He finished 9-of-17 from the field including going 9-of-12 from two-point range. Daniels also added three free-throws made, four rebounds, and one steal in the victory.

 
Women's Basketball Player of the Week  
 

Reese Arnold, Westminster College

Arnold, a junior from Lonedell, Mo., helped lead the Blue Jays to a pair of wins last week. She averaged 26.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in the two games. On the week she shot .515 from the field, knocking down five triples and making 13-of-18 free-throws. Arnold had a high of 28 points on February 18 against Illinois College. 

 
Men's Field Athlete of the Week  
 

Hunter Matthews, Greenville University

Matthews placed in the top five in two events last weekend. He won the high jump with a mark of 6'4.75"; ranking him 17th in Division III this spring. He also finished 5th in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.45 seconds.

 
Men's Track Athlete of the Week  
 

Jacob Ridenhour, Webster University

Ridenhour had a dominant showing over the weekend, taking home first-place finishes in the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash. His time of 6.88 seconds in the 60-meter ranks him 2nd nationally while his winning time of 22.32 seconds in the 200 is the faster by a SLIAC runner this season.

 
Women's Track Athlete of the Week  
 

Danielle Schultz, Webster University

Schultz, a sophomore from Swansea, Ill., notched a pair of first-place finishes at the TRX Timing Meet over the weekend. She finished 1st in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:37.16. Schultz's winning time of 3:15.85 in the 1000 meter run was a personal best.

 
Women's Field Athlete of the Week  
 

Cayden Sharp, Greenville University

Sharp continued her torrid season, adding three more top finishes while competing against Illinois College. Sharp took first in the high jumper with a mark of 5'1" and followed with wins in the triple jump (34'10") and 60-meter hurdles (10.10); both season bests.

 
Men's Tennis Player of the Week  
 

Wyatt Dale, Principia College

Dale, a senior from St. Louis, Mo., went 4-0 on the season opening week for the Panthers. Playing at #2 singles he won 6-0 and 6-1 against Webster and 6-2 and 6-2 against Illinois Wesleyan. Teaming up with Daniel Gomez on his team's top doubles pairing, Dale won 8-0 against Webster and 8-2 against Illinois Wesleyan. 

 
Women's Tennis Player of the Week  
   

Emma Ferguson, Webster University

Ferguson, a junior from Troy, Mo., picked up a pair of wins on the weekend. She defeated Truman State in #4 singles by the score of 6-2 and 6-2 and added an 8-1 win at #3 doubles with her teammate Katarina Serbentas. Her two match wins accounted for half of her team's four points on the day.

 
Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week  
 

Natalie Needy, Westminster College

Needy, a senior from Fenton, Mo., was a force the past week; totaling 28 kills in two matches while hitting .491. Needy recorded 12 kills in a sweep of Greenville and followed with 16 kills in a five-set match against Spalding. On the week she finished with 28 kills, averaging 3.5 per set, six blocks, and 33 total points.

 
Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
   

Erica Schrader, Westminster College

Schrader sparked the Blue Jays to two conference wins last week. The junior libero recorded 12 digs in her team's sweep of Greenville. But more importantly, she registered 25 digs in a come-from-behind win against Spalding. On the week she totaled 37 digs, averaging 4.63 per set.

  • Desiree Brooks, Fontbonne (Track and Field) Broke a nine-year-old school record in the 1000 meter run with a time of 3:28.83.
  • Kaleb Cresswell, Iowa Wesleyan (Men's Basketball) Scored a career-high 28 points against Eureka, hitting 7 three-pointers.
  • Olivia Falls, Eureka (Women's Basketball) Recorded a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds against Greenville.
  • Jadyn Fitzgerald, Fontbonne (Volleyball) Had 14 kills and 10 digs in a win over Eureka.
  • Kyra Gensel, Webster (Volleyball) Tallied 23 digs in three sets against Greenville.
  • Emma Pramik, Fontbonne (Volleyball) Had 17 digs in a three-set win over Eureka.
  • Ali Spohr, Webster (Volleyball) Nearly recorded a triple-double; finishing with 9 kills, 13 assists, and 13 digs against Greenville.
  • Mya Summers, Spalding (Volleyball) Recorded 43 assists and 17 digs in a match against Westminster.
