Principia and Webster Recognized by ITA for Academic Success

Both Principia College and Webster University have been recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for their academic success during the 2020-21 season. Both schools had their men's and women's tennis programs, as well as several individuals, earn recognition for the academic year.

Four athletes from the Principia College men's tennis team were honored with the ITA Scholar-Athlete distinction: Wyatt Dale, William Johnson, Elliot Mattiesen, and Rafter Sprague. Three athletes from Principia College women's tennis team earned the same honor: Paige Lesko, Hannah Switzer, and Kelsie Huss. In addition, the Panthers men's and women's tennis teams were each named to the list of 2020-21 Division III All-Academic Teams. 

A total of 16 student-athletes from Webster University earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors. From the men's team: Matt Birchmeier, Tanner Haugen, Justin Kohler, Riley Muren, Cody Neal, Parker Schaeffer, and Noah Thomas. And from the women's team: Emily Casey, Lauren Denny, Emma Ferguson, Kat Serbentas, Erin Brezovar, Maggie Federhofer, Bailey Higgins, Izzy Harter, and Alyssa Tourville. Both Gorlok programs were also named All-Academic Teams.

In 2021, 772 Division III Men student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, and 111 men's tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction. A total of 1,048 Division III Women student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete and 144 women's tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction.

To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, one must meet the following requirements. They must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, be listed on the institutional eligibility form. To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must meet the following requirements, have a team grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.00 scale), all student-athletes included should be listed on the institutional eligibility form, and all varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year.
