SLIAC Players of the Week - March 22

 

Diamond Sports Baseball Hitter of the Week
 

Payton Whitehead, Westminster College

Whitehead hit went 4-for-6 at the plate in a doubleheader sweep of Eureka. He finished the day with two roubles, adding two home runs and four runs batted in. Whitehead knocked both of his long balls in the second game and finished the doubleheader with a 2.000 slugging percentage.

 
Diamond Sports Baseball Pitcher of the Week  
 

Luke Summers, Fontbonne University

Worked 7 1/3 innings against Carthage, allowing just one run and four hits while striking out 11. He now is just eight strikeouts from becoming the SLIAC career leader in strikeouts.

 
Men's Basketball Player of the Week  
 

Jarryd Fernandes, Iowa Wesleyan University

The senior forward scored 22 points while grabbing 15 rebounds against Spalding. He finished 9-of-20 from the floor, going 4-of-6 from the free-throw line while eight of his rebounds came on the offensive end. He added one steal and three blocked shots in the game.

 
Women's Basketball Player of the Week  
 

Abbie Reece, Westminster College

Put up 21 points on 8-of-9 shooting in a 89-57 win over Fontbonne. Reece knocked down 4-of-5 three-pointers and added four rebounds in the game. 

 
Men's Tennis Player of the Week  
 

Riley Muren, Webster University

Muren, a senior, notched wins at both #1 singles and #1 doubles last week for the Gorloks. He blanked Illinois College 6-0, 6-0 in singles play and followed with a 8-1 win in doubles. He is now tied for 4th in school history with 32 singles wins in his career.

 
Women's Tennis Player of the Week  
 

Erin Brezovar, Webster University

The sophomore won two matches last week for the Gorloks, picking up wins at #1 singles and on the #1 doubles team. She won 6-1, 3-6, 10-5 in singles over Illinois College and added an 8-0 win with Maggie Federhofer in doubles. 

 

Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week

 
 

Aamahn Murvin, Webster University

Murvin helped the Gorloks rebound from a loss against Spalding with a 4-0 victory over Principia by scoring two goals and adding one assist. He netted his two goals on just four shots and totaled five points on the week.

 
Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week  
 

Cameron Killian, Webster University

Killian, a senior, led a Gorlok defense that allowed just one goal in 199 minutes over two games for the week. He helped Webster record a shutout in a 4-0 win over Principia, holding the Panthers to just three shots.

 
Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week  
 

Sydney Grant, Eureka College

Tallied the game winning goal against Blackburn, leading the Red Devils to their first conference win in over five years. 

 
Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week  
 

Abby Swope, Eureka College

Swope notched a shutout against Blackburn, marking the program's first conference win in over five years. The junior keeper stopped all three shots she faced in the game. 

 
Softball Hitter of the Week  
 

Ally Klein, Spalding University

Klein hit .583 over four games last week for Spalding, helping the team to a pair of wins. She reached base in all four games, with a .625 on-base percentage on the week, recording three multi-hit games including a three hit game in game one against Eureka. She added three runs batted in and four stolen bases on the weekend and finished with three runs scored. 

 
Softball Pitcher of the Week  
 

Olivia Carter, Spalding University

Carter appeared in three of four games over the weekend, going 1-0. She worked 11.2 innings over a four game series against Eureka, allowing just four runs and 11 hits while striking out seven. She picked up the win in the series finale, going four innings and allowing one hit and no runs with one strikeout.

 
Men's Field Athlete of the Week  
   

KeYonn Hall-Baker, Fontbonne University

Hall-Baker set two new school records over the weekend while placing in the top four in two events at the Richard Martin Junior Invite. He took 2nd place in the high jump with a mark of 6'0.75" and added a 4th place showing in the long jump with a distance of 20'2.25".

 
Men's Track Athlete of the Week  
 

Jared Beyers, Greenville University

The sophomore opened up the outdoor season with a pair of two-two finishes at the Rose Hulman Early Bird meet. Beyers took first place in the 4x100 and added a second place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 50.45 seconds, nearly two seconds faster than his previous season best time.

 
Women's Field Athlete of the Week  
 

Raven Venegas, Fontbonne University

Venegas took 2nd place in the shot put and 4th place in the discus at the Richard Martin Junior Invite. She had a distance of 39'7.25" in the shot put and 120'11" in the discus. 

 

Women's Track Athelte of the Week

 
 

Danielle Schultz, Webster University

Making her outdoor season debut, Schultz picked up a pair of top five finishes at the CMU Open. She finished 3rd in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:54.87 and added a 4th place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:26.74.

  • Addison Beussink, Webster University (Women's Basketball) Tallied 25 points and 11 rebounds in a win over Illinois College.
  • Adam Lovell, Webster University (Baseball) Went 3-for-4 at the plate with four stolen bases in game two of a doubleheader against Blackburn.
  • Kirbie Mendenhall, Webster University (Softball) Allowed just one hit over five innings in recording a win over Rose-Hulman.
  • Matt Mulhearn, Webster University (Baseball) Struk out 10 in just five innings against Blackburn, becoming the career leader in Gorlok history with 267.
  • Tawny Rodriguez, Greenville University (Track and Field) Picked up two first-place finishes; the shot put and the disc. 
  • Rylee Stafford, Fontbonne University (Women's Basketball) Scored 27 points with six three's in a win over Eureka.
