SLIAC Players of the Week - April 12

 

Diamond Sports Baseball Hitter of the Week
 

Daniel Youngblood, Fontbonne University

Youngblood, a senior, hit .545 over three games for the Griffins last week. He was 6-for-11 at the plate, finishing with three home runs and six runs batted in while adding six runs scored. Youngblood had two multiple hit games and twice drove in three runs on the week. He finished with a 1.455 slugging percentage and recorded one stolen base.

Jack Parisi, Spalding University

Parisi, a junior, worked his way to a win over Iowa Wesleyan. He threw 5 innings of four hit ball, allowing one earned run, while striking out 13.

 
Men's Tennis Player of the Week  
 

Rafter Sprague, Principia College

Sprague, a freshman, recorded a pair of wins last week for the Panthers, going 2-2 overall. He won 6-4, 6-1 at #5 singles against Greenville and added an 8-3 win at #3 doubles with partner William Johnson. His only losses on the week came against WashU.

 

Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week

 
 

Ahmadou Gueye, Spalding University

Gueye contributed on all three of his team's goals in a 3-0 win over Principia. The freshman midfielder tallied 2 goals, including the game-winner, while adding an assist on the final goal of the game.

 
Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week  
 

Vicent Sanchis, Iowa Wesleyan University

Sanchis, a freshman from Valencia, Spain, blanked visiting Westminster in a 1-0 Tigers win. The keeper stopped all nine shots he faced in the game while picking up his third shutout of the season.

 
Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week  
 

Molly Kovarik, Fontbonne University

Kovarik, a senior, helped the Griffins to a pair of wins last week; finishing with four goals. She tallied two goals in her team's 8-0 win over Eureka, doing her damage on just five shots. She followed with both of her team's goals in a 2-0 win over Webster, securing the Griffins a SLIAC regular season title. 

 
Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week  
 

Mary Beers, Fontbonne University

Beers picks up her second straight weekly award as the Griffins continue to blank their opponents. Beers recorded two more shutouts, giving her seven this season. She worked 147:37 minutes of play this week, making one save, and tallying the wins in both games for Fontbonne.

 
Softball Hitter of the Week  
 

Abby Burroughs, Webster University

Burroughs, a senior, hit .600 with 1 home run and 7 RBI over four games last week. The outfielder finished 9-of-15 at the plate, scoring six times and adding two doubles and a triple. She had a hit in each of the four games including two multi-hit games. Burroughs finished with a 1.067 slugging percentage on the week and added a stolen base.

 
Softball Pitcher of the Week  
 

Olivia Carter, Spalding University

Carter appeared in three games last week for the Golden Eagles, finishing with a 2-1 record and a 2.19 earned-run average. She totaled four strikeouts in 16 innings pitched and completed two games. Her best outing was in a 7-2 win over Westminster, going 7 innings and allowing just one earned run while striking out one.

 
Men's Field Athlete of the Week  
   

Isaac Green, Greenville University

Green took first-place in the long jump at the WashU Dual. The freshman marked 22'1" in the event, beating his previous season best mark by over two feet. 

 
Men's Track Athlete of the Week  
 

Carson Rantanen, Greenville University

Rantanen, a sophomore, took first-place at the WashU Dual in the 100-meter dash. He finished in a time of 10.78 seconds, setting a personal best time. That mark is 12th best in Division III this spring.

 
Women's Field Athlete of the Week  
 

Tawny Rodriguez, Greenville University

Rodriguez had a busy afternoon, competing in three events, and coming away with three top two finishes. She took first in both the shot put and discus and finished second in the hammer. She had a mark of 40'2" in the shot put and 123'4" in the discus to lead all throwers.

 

Women's Track Athlete of the Week

 
 

Abby Holt, Principia College

Holt finished 4th in the 400-meter race at the Lindenwood Meet, finishing in a time of 1:05.38. That set a new personal best time for Holt and moved her into first-place in the SLIAC by three-seconds this season. Her finish was the top by a Division III athlete in the event.

  • Adam Lovell, Webster University (Baseball) Was 4-for-8 at the plate with one home run, three RBI, and two runs scored in a doubleheader against #2 WashU.
  • Eric Meyer, Spalding University (Baseball) Went 2-for-2 with a home run, 5 RBI, and two runs scored against Iowa Wesleyan.
  • Hunter Mulholland, Westminster College (Baseball) Had two hits in both games of a doubleheader against #2 WashU.
  • Nicholas Salas, Iowa Wesleyan University (Baseball) Was 4-for-7 at the plate with a home run and three RBI in a doubleheader against Spalding.
  • Jordan Smevoll, Webster University (Baseball) Went 6 2/3 innings and allowed just four hits, picking up a 7-1 win over #2 WashU.
  • Grace Sweat, Spalding University (Softball) Hit .455 on the week, going 3-for-3 with 3 RBI in a 14-13 win over Webster.
  • Armond Williams, Webster University (Track and Field) Took 1st in the high jump with a mark of 5'9". 
  • Payton Williams, Webster University (Women's Soccer) Finished with 2 goals and 1 assist in a 4-1 win over Spalding.
