SLIAC Game of the Week: Westminster at Spalding - Volleyball (September 27, 2016)
This week's SLIAC Game of the Week is Westminster College visiting Spalding University for a conference volleyball match on Saturday. The match will take place in Louisville, Ky. at 10 a.m. and feature two of the four teams in the conference who have already surpassed double digits in wins this season.....MORE

AROUND THE SLIAC

The Blackburn men's soccer team has won two straight games including their 2016 SLIAC opener, over Iowa Wesleyan. Reed Gwillim put the Beavers on top early, scoring just three-minutes into the action. He added a second goal just 10-minutes later as the Beavers went on to the 3-1 win. The Beavers followed with a 4-2 win over Robert Morris-Springfield, recording their first back to back wins this season. They have now won three of their last five games and evened their overall record to 4-4-2 this season. |

James Bowen captured his second SLIAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week award this season, winning this week's top honor. Bowen totaled two goals and an assist in three games for the Red Devils last week, helping them to a pair of wins. Bowen set up the game tying goal in his team's 2-1 win over Blackburn and followed by netting the only two goals in a 2-0 win over MacMurray. Bowen currently leads the SLIAC in both goals and total points. |

The Fontbonne volleyball team stopped a four match losing streak with a 3-1 win at home over Lincoln Christian. The Griffins rallied after dropping the opening set to win 19-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-21. Fontbonne hit .154 in the match with Kersten McDonough leading the way with 15 kills. Mariana Rogers added 23 digs while Lynsey Wehrenberg finished with 20 assists. |

The Greenville men's soccer team had a hard fought loss to #12 ranked Washington-St. Louis. The Panthers trailed just 1-0 at halftime before the game opened up in the second-half, with the Bears going on for a 4-0 win. Greenville is now 3-6-1 overall this season and returns to conference action this weekend when they host Principia College at 7 p.m. on Saturday. |

The Tigers volleyball squad has a busy week with three matches in two days this week, after already hosting Eureka on Tuesday night. Iowa Wesleyan will host Blackburn on Friday night before heading over to Cedar Rapids, Iowa for two matches on Saturday. The Tigers will face Coe at 3:30 p.m. and then take on Wisconsin-Parkside at 5:30 p.m. Iowa Wesleyan is currently 4-9 overall and 3-5 in the SLIAC and will be looking to snap a seven match losing streak. |

For the second week in a row MacMurray junior Lyndi Saccaro has been named the SLIAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week. Last week Saccaro tallied a point in all three of the Highlanders games, all wins. Saccaro finished the week with five goals and two assists for 12 total points and 16 shots on goal in the three games including a hat trick in a win over Lincoln Christian. |

Panther Emily Tippetts was named to the Illinois College Volleyball All-Tournament team last weekend after helping Principia go 3-1. Tippetts finished with 51 kills in four matches, committing ust 18 errors. She reached double figures in kills in three of the four matches and twice knocked down 16 kills. She finished her match against Earlham by hitting .483 with 14 kills. On the season Tippetts leads the Panthers with 3.38 kills per set and is hitting .251. Principia returns to action this weekend as they will compete in the Illinois Tech Invite in Chicago, Ill. |

The Spalding University athletic program participated in "Girls in Sports" field trip hosted by the Louisville Women Sports Network last week. The even was held at the KFC Yum Center with over 500 middle school girls from the Louisville area attending. Students asked questions, answered trivia, received autographs and photos with student-athletes.....MORE |

Webster University is currently accepting nominations for new members to the Gorlok Hall of Fame. The deadline for the class of 2017 is October 1, 2016. Former Webster players, coaches, and teams, and other individuals who have made significant contributions to the athletic program are eligible for selection to the Hall of Fame. Westminster senior middle Amanda Kiso became the volleyball program's all-time leader in blocks this week. Kiso recorded seven blocks in the Blue Jays win over MacMurray, giving her 343 in her four years with Westminster. Kiso is currently averaging 1.04 blocks per set this season, fourth best in the SLIAC. |
