Fontbonne's McDonough Records 1,000th Career Kill

It was a rough first set for the Griffins as women's volleyball fell to St. Louis College of Pharmacy 25-15. Fontbonne struggled to hit around the Eutectics' blockers, but all that changed in round two.

Fontbonne only tallied one more kill in the second set, but increased their hitting percentage by 20 percent as they won 25-20. The Griffins then finished off with 25-15 and 25-16 wins to bring their overall season record to 2-2.

During the second set, Fontbonne senior Kersten McDonough hit her fifth kill of the night, securing her 1,000th career point as a Griffin and finished the night with 18 kills. McDonough is just the third Griffin to reach 1,000 career kills, a feat which hasn't been accomplished since Nicole Moyer tallied 1,370 from 2001-2004. McDonough has 1,013 kills as a Griffin and transferred in with 10 from the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

Mariana Rogers recorded 16 digs in the win. Senior setter Lynsey Wehrenberg assisted 26 times while freshman Megan Schaller notched 11 of her own. McDonough hit a team-leading .239 on the night while Megan McKenzie came up with some timely kills from the right side as she totaled nine.

Fontbonne opens St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on the road this weekend with a quad at Westminster College. The Griffins take on the host Bluejays at 10 a.m. followed by the Iowa Wesleyan University Tigers at 2 p.m.
