Webster's Dakin and Thorman Named GCAA All-American Scholars
Webster University team members Brodie Dakin and Tyler Thorman were named 2014-15 Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-American Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). The twosome become the first Gorloks in the golf program's history to earn the distinction, and the first in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference since 2009 to be honored.
Thorman (Macomb, IL/Macomb HS), who will be a senior in 2015-16, had a team-high 76.6 scoring average for 22.5 rounds in 2014-15 and has maintained a 3.5 cumulative grade point average (GPA) as he works toward a degree in management.
Dakin (Macomb, IL/Macomb HS), graduated in May with a B.S. in business administration and had a cumulative 3.72 GPA at Webster. He had a scoring average of 78.0 for 22.5 rounds in 2014-15.
Dakin and Thorman were two of only 70 golfers nationwide in the NCAA III to be named All-American Scholars. To be considered for an NCAA III Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50% of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 79.0, and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
"Though Tyler and Brodie were the team's scoring leaders this past year, they were also great academic examples of the golf team in 2014-15 in general, as the whole squad maintained a stellar 3.65 cumulative GPA", noted head coach Andrew Belsky. "We will miss Brodie next year but look forward to Tyler and our other returnees, plus our new members of the team, keeping up that academic standard."
