SLIAC/Diamond Baseball Players of the Week - Feb. 29

This week's St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Players of the Week are: Korey Vire, from Spalding University; and Tanner Carter, from Fontbonne University.

SLIAC/DIAMOND SPORTS BASEBALL HITTER OF THE WEEK
KOREY VIRE - SPALDING UNIVERSITY

Vire, a senior from Georgetown, Ill., helped his team a pair of split double headers last week including a win over #19 Baldwin Wallace. Vire hit .611 on the week with three three hit games while driving in six and stealing six bases. The second baseman went 5-for-9 with two runs scored and three stolen bases in a double header against Wheaton. He followed by going 6-for-9 with five runs batted in and two runs scored in two games against Baldwin Wallace. On the week Vire finished with four runs scored and 11 hits in 18 at bats; recording a .632 on-base percentage.

 

SLIAC/DIAMOND SPORTS BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
TANNER CARTER - FONTBONNE UNIVERSITY

Carter, a senior from St. Louis, Mo., was impressive in helping his team record their first win of the 2016 season. Carter went all nine innings of a 7-0 win over Dominican. He scattered three hits over the nine innings, striking out 11 and walking just two. Carter allowed no runs in the complete game shutout and improves to 1-1 on the season.

 


Other Notables:

  • Nick Bohlmann, Westminster College - Bohlmann went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and two runs batted in during his team's 24-15 win over Augsburg.
  • Matt Goro, Spalding University - Goro threw 10 innings in a start against Concordia, allowing just one run and striking out nine; receiving a no-decision.
  • Drake Hardin, MacMurray College - Hardin hit .538 with two home runs and five runs batted in during a three game home stand against Aurora.
  • Luke Jarvis, MacMurray College - Jarvis went 3 1/3 innings of relief work, allowing just one hit and striking out seven while recording a win.
